More than 6,000 California Verizon workers are beginning negotiations with management for a new contract
Contract negotiations for Verizon workers in California begin on February 1. They are part of approximately 30,000 other Verizon employees who are covered by separate union agreements.
In 2008, these members supported our campaign to win a good contract. Now it's our turn to show them the same solidarity. Their contract expires on March 13.

Union intervenors rip proposed Frontier settlement
Public Utilities Commission of Ohio urged to reject stipulation as contrary to the public interest
"No assurances that Frontier will have the financial strength to reliably operate and maintain Verizon Ohio."
In a legal brief filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) on Friday, CWA and IBEW urged that commissioners reject the proposed sale of Verizon's landlines to Frontier as being contrary to the public interest.
In addition, the unions urged rejection of a proposed stipulation as being "wholly inadequate in that it fails to meaningfully address the fundamental problems with the proposed transaction." This stipulation was reached by the PUCO staff, the Office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel, Verizon and Frontier on December 8, the day before the Commission's scheduled hearing on the proposed deal.

Dear Speed Matters Activist,

Right now we've got a great chance to close the corporate tax loophole that lets phone and Internet companies bank hundreds of millions in tax savings by putting your service at risk.
U.S. Representative Paul Hodes (D-NH) has announced he will introduce legislation that would reform the Reverse Morris Trust (RMT), an obscure loophole that lets companies like Verizon avoid hundreds of millions in taxes by dumping their assets on smaller, weaker companies.

BOSTON — .Verizon’s top Massachusetts executive said the company will curtail the expansion of its FiOS TV service into new communities in the state in 2010 to focus on building out its network in the towns where it already has licensing agreements.
Donna Cupelo, president of Verizon’s Massachusetts and Rhode Island operations, said the company is trying to ensure it reaches every neighborhood in each city and town where it has a cable TV license within a five-year period.
Verizon entered the Massachusetts cable TV market with a license for Woburn in late 2005, and now has TV licenses in 106 cities and towns
